Frustrated Cook

For the past several years, and even more intensively for the past few months Brian has been dieting. The only things he is supposed to eat are meats, and fish, salads, and vegetables--not all vegetables, mostly just broccoli, asparagus, cabbage, and an occasional green bean. No root vegetables or ones that taste good--no peas or corn. He much prefers to eat out, and I can understand why. I have no passion for fixing such restricted meals.

I miss the mixing, creaming, blending, cutting in, rolling out, kneading, proofing, rising, baking, simmering, mashing, chilling, grating, braising, dropping by spoonfuls, frosting, trimming, decorating, buttering--in other words, the arts of cooking--the parts of cooking that make it a joyful experience.

I guess I need to quit sulking and learn to make more creative salads and vegetables. How about some suggestions?
